Ruth Roman is the youngest child born to Lithuanian and Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold (Gold) & Abraham Roman in Lynn, Massachusetts. At the age of five her carnival barker father passed away, leaving Ruth's mother with no choice but to be a cleaning lady and waitress in order to support her family. Ruth was born in a poor neighborhood of Boston Massachusetts where she attended the school. But she quit school only after two years of school to explore a career in acting. The path was difficult to follow. Even though she got a job in New York posing as a writer for a mystery publication but no theater jobs came her way. The next position she was offered was a "hat check" girl for a nightclub but she quit and returned to Boston. She was in Boston when she worked at evening as an actor for the New England Repertory Company and the rest of the time, was an usherette. She was a drama student at the Bishop-Lee Theatre School and graduated.
